The frame shows some wear and a split along the right side that has been glued. The painting depicts a small sailboat on a river with hills in the background, trees, rocks and foliage in the foreground. The light is handled skillfully, and it appears to be that late afternoon sun that sets everything ablaze. It's a charming, tranquil scene that makes me long for such leisure. They represent family crests, or coats of arms, and are perhaps examples since no names appear on the paintings. They are each well painted and depict a shield with a crown. The designs are quite similar except that one has 3 dogs on one side where the other has bands.
