SOLD

Offered here is one of two fine 19th century watercolor paintings by George Stanfield Walters (1838-1924). It depicts sailing ships along a coastline. The image is approximately 19" by 13". The paintings are framed and matted and have not been examined outside of the frame. I think one will prefer to reframe the paintings since the frames are not of the period and are, frankly, unattractive (try ghastly). The paintings, however, are quite beautiful and appear to be in excellent shape. ...click for details

Here we have a fine and interesting painting of wild horses and an Argentine cowboy. There is lots of action in this painting the way only a skilled watercolorist can portray it. Done entirely in earth tones as if to further emphasize the atmosphere of the action on the plain. The painting is signed, and dated 1942. I cannot make out the first name at all, but the last name may be Teby. Even so, I am not sure and thus have not been able to find out any information about the artist. The pain ...click for details

Very interesting and dramatic depiction of, presumably, the Great Flood of biblical times. I have seen various similar scenes over the years, so I imagine this is after a more well know and earlier piece. This painting shows a mother tiger with her cub in her mouth perched on a high rock away from the swirling water below. It also shows a man and woman hoisting their children upon the rock with the tiger away from the flood waters. The painting is framed in a giltwood frame with great old pa ...click for details

This is a wonderful painting of a dog smoking a pipe. He wears a collar with the name Pears on it. I like to think that this is a caricature of someone's favorite old dog, who may not have actually smoked a pipe, but whose personality was such that if he could have he would have. I think this dates before the turn of the century. It is in excellent condition and is in an early frame, possibly original. I have had it rematted. The size is approximately 21" by 22" as framed. This watercolor is believed to be by Andrew Benjamin Donaldson, England, 1840-1919. It is wonderfully graphic and evokes an image of England during the industrial revolution. The colors are are gorgeous and the detail is wonderful. Very well painted, and an interesting subject. Newly framed and matted, in non glare glass (nevertheless, I cannot seem to capture a good photograph). The size as framed is just under 19" by 16". The sight dimensions are 12" by 8.5".

This is a pair of perfectly charming English houses in watercolor. One is a vine covered thatched cottage with gothic windows down and in the dormers, and a conservatory. The other is of classical design, set among trees, and bears the title, Petit Menage, Jersey. They are crisply rendered, one in particular having an architectural quality to it as though it might have been done as an elevation. They are unsigned, although he thatched cottage has a funny little monogram that may be a signatur ...click for details
