SOLD

Offered here is a fine, old ivory statue of a Japanese farmer standing nearly 8" tall. Very nice work, mellow color (more than the camera will show), some age cracks. The man is carrying a woven basket at his hip, and a peach in his left hand. Whatever he may have held in his right hand is mostly missing. There is no other damage. Meiji period, maybe earlier. Signed on the bottom of the base.

Offered here is one of two exquisite identical imari plates, circa 1900, Japan. The enameling is in iron red, green and gilt with cobalt and gilt in the center in a foo lion motif. The plate is divided into eight panels in four different motifs of animals, specifically a dragon, bird and two different dogs. The plates are approximately 8" in diameter and are in very fine condition. There is almost invisible rubbing to the gilt and similarly minute rough spots to the edge in one or two p ...click for details

Offered here is a late Meiji to early Showa period figural container of bronze or bronzed metal in the form of a monkey and her young. It is very well cast with nice detail on both figures and on the bottom. The head is hinged in the back and lifts up to reveal a hollow interior. I have no idea what this would have been used for. It is in very good condition...the only flaw being the hinge. It wore through at some point and is now held together with wire. The box is signed on the bottom. ...click for details

SOLD

A Japanese Ikebana basket hand crafted by an artisan of natural bamboo with a handle made from a small branch. The panels of bamboo are tied together with thin strips of bamboo and form an intricate and very beautiful knot. The panels are cut so that they form an undulating rim of the basket. The bamboo has aged to a silvery hue. The basket is perfectly balanced. The measurements are 12" to the top of the handle, and about 5" across the top. Early to mid 20th century.

SOLD

Offered here is a very pretty small cloisonne footed vase, Meiji period, Japan. One side depicts a crane in flight, the other, a butterfly on the wing among flowers. Blue ground, flowers, foliage and border in green, red, yellow and white. It is raised on four bronze feet. Written on the bottom in French script are the words (I think) Le or La Paire, which means the pair. It is hard to read because it is faint but, if I am correct, it may have been one of a pair. Who knows. It has a very ...click for details

SOLD

Here we have a fine ivory okimono of a demon. It is carved with fine detail in the clothing and expression right down to the hairs on the demon's body. It is sectional, and attaches to the base with a peg that fits into a hole. The arms and legs attach the same way. The folded leg is somewhat loose, so I have worked some museum putty into the hole to keep it attached. This does not damage the piece and can be removed with ease. It looks like the demon may have held a spear at one time. ...click for details
