Offered here is a very pretty papier mache' tray in cobalt and black with gilt edges on a conforming faux bamboo stand. It measures 18" by 13.5" by 21" approximately. The tray is Chippendale form with a wide cobalt blue border and a black center. The gilded decoration is somewhat faded now, but is foliage and vines that drape down into both colors towards the center. It is a wonderfully unusual color combination, and is apparently original. The stand, of course, is 20th c ...click for details
Offered here is an interesting box made of tortoise shell applied to bamboo and having a horn lid and bottom. The finial on the top is probably bone. It opens where the seam is around the middle. It measures 4.75" high and is 3" in diameter (not including the finial). The box is in good condition but not perfect. There is a little separation at the bottom where the horn meets the shell. In addition, there are two chips in the shell on the rim at the opening. None of it is bad, i ...click for details
Offered here is a gloriously faded silver gilt pedestal or plant stand. The color and form is what caught my attention. Silver gilt on old wood seems to fade to sort of an ice blue which is just beautiful to me, and looks so wonderful with the pale interiors you see in a lot of homes today. The pedestal is sturdy and it won't tip your sculpture off. It measures 36" high, is 8" square at the top and 9" square at the bottom.
Offered here is the best pair of faux book bookends I've found. They are made of some type of composite material and they are very, very heavy (almost 11 lbs.), and they are so remarkably well done that one would be hard pressed to tell that they are not authentic antique leatherbound books without actually picking them up. The spines look like tooled leather with gilded scrollwork and lettering. In fact there is some fading of the gilding and the lettering, and slight variations in the c ...click for details
Offered here is a fine little box made from the beautiful iridescent abalone shell applied over brass. The shell looks deep and liquid, but character and color of the box changes every time the light changes, or if you look at it from another angle, such is the nature of the abalone shell. The box is trimmed in brass, which has oxidized to a deeper color, and the box is raised on little ball feet. The interior is wood lined. The box is perfect, and measures 4" by 3" by 1". This is a lovely yew wood box with satinwood inlay, reptile embossed leather interior, and a small painting set into the top by listed, contemporary French artist, Anne Boille. The technique she uses is called "fixing under glass", which originates from paintings carried out on paper or fabric and covered by glass before drying. But the technique itself of painting on glass was created during Renaissance in Murano, where glassworkers painted reproductions of ex-votos or biblical subj ...click for details
Offered here is a very pretty pillbox made of brass with the appearance of being pierced but it is overlaid on I-don't-know-what. It is in perfect condition, 1.5" in diameter, 5/8" tall and the lid fits nice and tight so your pills don't fall out. Mid 20th century.
Offered here is a wonderful early 20th century leather box with sterling silver trim. The leather is very high quality leather with a warm, rich patina and smooth as a baby's bottom to the touch. The top has a rounded sterling silver oval disk that could be monogrammed. The box has a lovely, simple form that would work well for a man, or for anyone who prefers a tailored look. The box is 7.5" by 5.25" and is 2.5" high approximately. The top is slightly rounded, so it' ...click for details
Offered here is a matching pair of early 20th century gilt wood and gesso mirrors with lovely detailing and a beautiful finish. The frames measure 19.5" by 23.5" on the outside. The interior measurement is 16" by 20". The frames have a foliage motif over a column. The red bole shows through in some of the high spots and the light chalky substance fills the low spots. The corners are continuous, meaning the design continues around the corners without without revealing the ...click for details
Offered here is a very decorative, mid 20th century Italian gilt wood plant stand or column. It has a twisted column, a carved base on knob feet, and a great patina. It stands 38" tall approximately. It is in very fine condition, some chippiness and a little grime (which we like on such a piece) and it is sturdy.
