Offered here is a handsome pair of bird figures, guinea hens to be exact, made and hand painted in Italy. The Italian birds of this type are the best in my opinion. The painting is very detailed and very obviously done entirely by hand. Each of these is a little bit different, maybe they are male and female...I don't know my guinea hens. Interestingly, these were made for someone specific. The marks on the bottom (pictured) says that they were made exclusively for the Walter Hatches. T ...click for details

I love these vintage Italian bird figures and I buy them whenever I can find them. This one appears to be a Snipe, or some similar sporting bird. It is hand painted on what looks like terra cotta, in slightly naive fashion. It has good strong colors and is in excellent condition. The bird stands almost 9.5" in height. These date to around 1960-1980 if I'm not mistaken.

These are wonderful, large jugs with great rustic appeal. Each ewer is approximately 16.5" high with an applied handle. The armorial design is in vivid colors on a white (more or less) ground. The handle has a red painted leaf design, the spout is trimmed in red. One of the ewers has been professionally repaired. You cannot tell at all that has been repaired, except that it is the clean one. The other ewer is in excellent condition. I was told that these were 19th century. I will say ...click for details

This is a wonderful piece of majolica or faience, a bottle shaped like a head of lettuce. The colors are beautiful and realistic. It has a cork stopper that is wedged quite tightly in the top. Something that sounds like cork is rattling around inside the bottle, but I have not wanted to disturb the present cork (you know how old dry cork can be), so I haven't investigated further. The bottle stands about 7.5" high and is about 4" at the widest point at the bottom. It is marked ...click for details

These are gorgeous birds, hand painted Italian faience. I have no idea what kind they are, but the colors are very striking and the pair of birds makes a very decorative accessory anywhere one might wish to use them. These were made between 1970 and 1980 and are in excellent condition. They are 7-8" in either direction.

I love these vintage Italian pieces. The colors are clear and vivid, the modeling is good and the painted detail is quite good, and naturalistic as well. The figure is a grouse, quail or a partridge standing in some ground cover. It stands about 6" high and is in excellent condition. It looks wonderful on a shelf with majolica, or would look good with a table arrangement. Marked Italy on the bottom, it probably dates to the 1970's.
