This is a hand carved and painted figure of St. George slaying the dragon. It is flat on the back and carved into a base. It is a very lively figural group. The horse is rearing up over the dragon, St. George's cape is flowing and the dragon is writhing on the ground, having been speared by St. George. It is in very good condition with no breaks or chips. The paint has worn in some areas and is maybe not as bright as it once was. I can only guess about it's origin and age, which ap ...click for details

Here we have a fine box, of what looks like yew wood, containing four perfume decanters, or scent bottles. The box is fitted with ornate brass corner pieces, key escutcheon, and a large pierced piece on top. The lid is chamfered. The box has the original key. The interior is lined in dark blue velvet and fitted for four scent bottles. The top has a mirror, which is a replacement. The decanters are pressed glass, and two have silver tops and two have gilt metal tops. They are each in excel ...click for details

Well, I said most of it in the title I suppose but, truly, this is one killer tray. The predominant color is crimson, with flowers in yellows, reds and blue. The back is painted that wonderful bolle blue. The finger carved edges and handles are delicate looking but not so fine that the tray lacks charm. There are some age cracks in the wood, a place or two where the gesso shows through the red, some craquelure on the surface, all of which looks wonderful. The size is 18" by 24" an ...click for details

Offered here is a small carved gem of a box that may be for snuff or tobacco, from the Black Forest region. Highly carved in traditional motifs of leaves and acorns, it has carved lattice designs and carved rope edge trim. One side contains within a cartouche, some superimposed initials that I cannot make out. The interior appears to be covered in paper or hide. The box is approximately 4.5" by 2.5". It is in excellent condition and dates to about 1870.

Small, expressive carved head of (probably) the Madonna dating to the late 18th century in my opinion. Remnants of gesso and paint, painted eyes, mounted on a stand. Not quite 6" including the stand. Very, very lovely and moving.

This is a wonderful, tall candle stand of wood turned in sort of a ribbon effect. It is mounted on a turned base of wood wich is 6.5" in diameter. The turned piece at the top, which is slightly concave and serves as a basin for the candle drippngs is about 6" in diameter. The piece stands 20" high. The wood is mellow and aged, with a softness from being handled, as well as soot and candle wax. It is a lovely lighting piece.

This is a lovely little box hand painted with roses and mums and other flowers in a spray across the top. The colors are a cream ground behind the flowers, cobalt blue in the corners and trimmed in gilt paint around the edges. The bottom of the box is cream with green garland all around and the edges here are trimmed in cobalt. The box is in fine condition, with a nice patina from many years of light handling. It is approximately 4" square, marked made in Italy on the bottom. This is ...click for details

This is not an ordinary horse head. This horse is at a dead run with nostrils flaring, glass eyes bugging out, ears flat back...this is Ichabod Crane's horse! This is the most wonderful umbrella handle I ever saw. Hand carved out of a beautiful, knotty piece of wood, every muscle in his strong head is exactly correct, and as smooth as glass. It is an old umbrella handle, but I would want to make it a walking stick I think. In excellent condition. The head is about 3" long, the enti ...click for details
