I hope the pictures show the painstaking effort of the artist in having painted every little scale on the lizard's body. The lizard has wonderful little feet with toes, a raised head, a ridge down it's length, and very lizard-like lidded eyes. I've never seen one of these before, and I quite like it. 9" long.

Heavy cast iron, obviously early, and fully 12" high. I have never seen one of these before, so I don't know whether it was originally polychrome. As it is, it is pot black, and has not been repainted anytime in recent history. English, 19th century.

And I've never seen another like him before, and I have no idea of the breed. He is lithe and lean, graceful and obedient, and I love all that about this animal. My favorite thing, however, is the expression on his face. He looks worried. He looks like a James Thurber dog to me, and for that he is my favorite. Old Iron Scotty Dog Bookends Archives: Decorative Art: Metals: Iron: Pre 1930   item# 76095 (stock#8081)  click for details Sally Rude Antiques and Fine Art Gallery 850-385-3211 SOLD  This is a really cute, vintage set of bookends. They are black Scotty dogs, half figured, on a stand. Nicely cast, with realistic detail. They are not painted, and there is no evidence that they ever were. There is some faint oxidation to the iron, which is a nice look. Nice and heavy, they are each 5" by 5". Excellent condition.
