 Carved Wood Sculpture,Datu,19c. Colonial Philippines
Offered here is a hand carved wood figure of, we believe, a Datu, or Tribal Chief, made during the 19th century colonial period of the Philippines. There are remnants of old paint. Particularly striking is the blue and white of the sash, and the garland of flowers and leaves around the head. The head is very well carved with nice features...a good face. Overall the figure has a nice, warm patina. Much of the arms and legs are missing, and there is evidence that something was attached to the back. It is mounted on a 4" by 4" black base and stands approximately 9".
