Shino ware guinomi (sake cup), covered in a thick whitish glaze over iron-oxide markings, by Kato Shuntei II.
The condition of the cup is perfect. It is marked under the base and comes in a signed wooden box, with a certificate. Size: about 6.5 cm (2.6 in) in diameter and 4.7 cm (1.9 in) in height Kato Shuntei II (1927-1995) inherited the name of his father in 1961. Basing his work on rather traditional shapes and techniques, he became a prominent Seto ware potter, along with his younger brother Kato Shunto. He received several prices in important exhibitions, such as the Asahi Togei-ten (Asahi Ceramics Exhibition) and the Nihon Dento Kogei-ten (Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition). He also represented Aichi Prefecture at the Osaka World Fair in 1970. |
