This very attractive natsume (tea caddy) was made by a master craftsman named Nakamura Muneyoshi. It is made of lacquered wood as it is traditionally the case for thin tea containers. The look and texture of the smooth wood create a very warm and soothing tea utensil. Nakamura Muneyoshi was born in 1932 in the Ishikawa prefecture, home of many great potters and artisans of tea ceremony wares for more than three hundred years, as the Maeda feudal lords were tea practitioners and patronized many artists during the Edo period (1615-1868). Nakamura Muneyoshi learned his art from his father. His work has been exposed several times in the Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo, a famous exhibition venue for high level craftspeople. Please inquire if you have some questions. The natsume is in excellent condition and will be shipped in a signed wooden box. Dimensions: 8 x 6.5cm (3.2 x 2.6 in); 84g (2.94 oz)
