Blue Glazed Meiping Yongzheng/18th C
Of wide shouldered tapering form, the deep cobalt blue thinning slightly at the everted mouth, pooling at the flared foot, the interior and the base glazed white exposing the soft paste biscuit. Yongzheng/18th C. 9 in.

Provenance: Westchester, New York collection

Monochrome glazed porcelain has been a favorite of the Chinese for over a thousand years, with the five monochrome glazes of the Song Dynasty establishing the Chinese view that simplicity in color and design can create perfect harmony. The deep blue glaze of this meiping did not find its genesis until the Ming Dynasty and its ultimate perfection in the Imperial kilns of the 18th C Qing. The combination of perfect shape and exquisite glaze make it the incarnation of "Chinese Taste". Compare Sotheby's Hong Kong, May 5, 2005, Lot 691.
