Stone Sanju-To (Three-Tiered Stupa) Muromachi
Provincial-style sanju-to (three-tiered stupa) in stone. Muromachi Period (1392-1568), possibly earlier.

Overall height, including foundation stone 101 cm, Height of stupa only 91 cm, Foundation stone 49.5 cm by 38.5 cm.

Extremely uncommon sanju-to stupa in a rustic provincial style. Documentation of a similarly styled goju-to (five-tiered stupa), taken from a Japanese-language reference on the topic of provincial Japanese Buddhist sculpture, is shown in the final photograph.
