Stone Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu bodhisattva Jizo Edo 18 c.
Stone depiction of Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu, dated to the third year of the Anei Era (1774), mid-Edo Period. Virtually pristine condition, with excellent lichen accumulation.

Height 45.5 cm, Width 23.2 cm, Depth 16.7 cm.

Of all the deities in the Buddhist pantheon, only one, Nyoirin Kannon, is depicted invariably in the seated pose of royal ease. Powerfully sculpted in bold relief, with fulsome lichen accumulation adding polychromatic and textural variegation, a notably good example of this distinctive deity.
