Figuratively sculpted granite depiction of a standing Jizo Bosatsu, a hoju (sacred jewel) held in both hands. Mid-Edo Period ca. 1750. Desirable softening of the lines and contours, with a few points of very minor old loss. Slight lichen accumulation. Height: 32.1 cm A charmingly rotund interpretation of the classic figuratively sculpted standing Jizo stone, simply rendered in a fine-grained granite. A charming piece, perfect either for the garden or for indoor display. |
