A lovely vintage Singer 221-1 Featherweight electric sewing machine and carrying case, made in 1949. This machine has the tooled fancy Victorian design end-plate, and the serial number is AJ105109 (for March-November 1949, made in the U.S.), the original foot pedal and various accessories along with the carrying case. The accessories include: black case with leather handle, accessories tray, edge stitcher, zipper foot, hemmer foot, ruffler, binder foot, adjustable hemmer, quilting foot (incomplete) and another unidentified attachment. It has a working lamp, and a Canadian Simanco motor. It runs cleanly, the wiring is intact and undamaged and it appears to be in very good condition except for some minor dulling and surface patina to the black enamel from use. There is some minor alligatoring to the finish (see image) at the top of the machine. The gold decals are intact and bright. The carrying case has one broken hasp (included, could possibly be welded, soldered or replaced, and the other hasp is strong enough to easily lift the case). The leather on the handle is considerably damaged and needs to be replaced (but it lifts fine). There is a slight musty smell to the case. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. starts at $29 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. NOTE: we do not accept PayPal.

$110

Formerly on our "what is it?" shelf, we have finally identified this unusual Victorian object. It is actually a Victorian lady's hem lifter. In the Aesthetic style popular in the 1880s, this solid brass clothing accessory clamps the bottom of the lady's dress with the tongs, which are locked in place by the sliding shield-shaped housing. A cord looped through a (now missing) brass loop at the top of the slider is pulled to raise the hem of the floor-length skirt. It has the word PATENT on the tongs, and this unusual item is in excellent original condition with no dents, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the missing loop and some minor bending of the shield edges. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Surface shipping to the continental U.S. is $5.50 (other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $85 if paid with a credit card. Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
