$225

A scarce, very early photograph of a motorcyle, sidecar and riders c1905. On a late tintype (photo on treated metal blank), this 2-3/8 x 1-5/8" (view area) image consists of a young motorcycle rider astride the bike with a rather concerned-looking grandma in the sidecar. Three other ladies stand behind her, and there is an Edmonson's Red Seal Toffee pail in the middle of the road (road hazards were a little different in those days...). It comes papered into its original cardboard mount, and this image has "GRAMMA HEMO (?), BILL DORIS LEAVING FOR CANADA" in pencil on the back. It is in very good original condition with no cracks, crazing, scrapes, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs other than some light fogging or silvering on the right side of the image. A must for the motorcycle or transportation image collector. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are secondhand and may have slight signs of gentle use. Uninsured surface shipping starts at $5 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher, and mandatory on items over $100 if paid with a credit card; credit card items will be shipped to confirmed billing addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.

$125

This is a original clear and vivid tintype photograph in its fancy early Scovill Union thermoplastic picture case c1855-60. The image is is 1/6 plate size (image size 3-1/4" x 2-3/4") and the case has a wonderful high relief vine and leaf design with a central medallion on both the front and back. It has the original gilt exposed hinges and original interior snap, as well as the finely engraved and tooled gold coloured picture surround. It has the original paper insert printed with GENUINE UNION CASE, IMPROVED. FINE GILT AND BURNISHED HINGE. SCOVILL MF'G Co. The cases are sometimes described as gutta percha cases, but Union cases were always a composition material and never gutta percha. The image is of a well dressed and seated rather stern countenanced young gentleman, and the image is crisp, clean and vivid with no staining, fading or any other fault. The dust flecks are under the glass and can be brushed away if you wish to unwrap the image from its metal surround. The 3-3/4" x 3-3/8" case is in exceptionally fine original condition with no damage, cracks, discolouration or fading except for two tiny chips at the edge; the hinges are excellent shape also, and it closes properly. There is no velvet decorative facing with this case. An attractive historical piece in exemplary condition. Surface shipping is $5 (to the US - other spots may vary) - insured is higher. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US.
