An unusual vintage English stoneware tankard made by Doulton Lambeth c1914. This 4" high mug has a nice mocha and chocolate colour body with applied raised green decoration and a thick applied strap handle. It has the motto "Bitter must be the cup that a smile will not sweeten", and it has the mark in use from 1891-1956, as well as the 7780 number corresponding to 1914.
