A vintage c1890s telescoping lorgnette or eyeglasses extending handle made of ornate rolled gold plate and hand carved mother of pearl panels with nice colour flash. It measures 5-1/4" when closed and 9-3/8" when opened. The top is 5/8" across, the extension has a fine checkerboard pattern, and the retaining inserts for the eyeglass frame are made of tortoiseshell. The opening is 3.5 mm. and the internal span is 10 mm. A fine example of late 19th century Canadian pressed or pattern glass. This is the 8-3/4" tall glass water pitcher in the Nova Scotia Grape and Vine pattern, produced by the Trenton Glass Works, located in Trenton/New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in the last quarter of the 19th century. This EAPG pitcher has a typical slightly grey cast to the glass, and it is in superb original condition with no chips, cracks, losses, damage or repairs; it has the expected minor straw and mold marks from manufacture.
