A great size 6-1/4 synthetic Alexandrite ring c1940s-50s. This ring features a marquise shaped 1-1/8 x 1/4" alexandrite stone which changes from purple to blue depending on the light. These simulated alexandrites are actually corundum laced with vanadium to produce the color change. This alexandrite-like sapphire material has been around for almost 100 years, and the stones test as corundums on a gem tester (Natural genuine alexandrites are expensive and uncommon, most of what you will see for sale is the simulated version). This ring is in 10k yellow gold and it is stamped 10K BIRKS. The claws and setting are fancy, and this ring weighs 5.3 grams. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. It has engraving on the shoulders and a PH monogram; it weighs 3.6 grams and it measures 1/2 x 7/16" across the top. It is stamped with a crown mark, 14K, and an E in diamond Eaton's mark (the Canadian retailer).
