This is a Pre-Columbian CHIMU / INCA Face Vessel from Peru, 900 - 1300 A.D. It is made of copper and silver. It measures about 6 1/2" X 5 1/2" X 8 3/4" ( 16.6 cm X 14.0 cm X 22.3 cm ). The Chimu Culture was located on the North Coast of Peru, in a narrow strip of desert, 20 - 100 miles wide, between the Pacific Ocean and the Western slopes of The Andes, crossed by short rivers that made their valleys very fertile. This is a Pre-Columbian GUERRERO Copper - Arsenic alloy CHISEL from Mexico, 300 - 900 A.D. This item was also known as HOE MONEY or Tajadera, an unstamped currency. It measures about 3/4" X 1/4" X 2 1/8" ( 1.9 cm X 0.6 cm X 5.4 cm ). This item was purchased at Butterfield & Butterfield in the 1960's.
