| This is a Pre-Columbian JAINA Anthropomorphic FIGURE from Mexico, 300 - 1200 C.E. It measures about 6 1/2" X 3 3/4" X 8" ( 16.6 cm X 9.6 cm X 20.4 cm ). The island of Jaina was a Mayan site located in the present-day state of Campeche, Mexico. Jaina was the elite Mayan burial site. Many ceramic figurines were excavated from the island. These figurines were found in the graves along with the human remains, glass, pottery, slateware. The figurines were found resting on top of the deceased's chest or held in their hands. Hollow figurines were predominant, but solid figures were found in large quantities as well. | ||
