| This is a Pre-Columbian CHIMU Blackware Stirrup Spout Vessel from Peru, 900 A.D. It measures about 5 3/4" X 5 1/4" X 7 1/4" ( 14.7 cm X 13.4 cm X 18.5 cm ). The Chimu Culture was located in the Moche Valley (now the city of Trujillo) on the North Coast of Peru. Its capital was Chan Chan. Chimu grew out of the remnants of the Moche Culture. Early Chimu pottery shows similarity to that of Moche's great work. Most Chimu ceramics are black. Chimu was well-known for their detailed and superior work with fine metals such as gold, silver, bronze, copper, and tumbago (copper and gold). Fishing was as important as Agriculture. Chimu traded the Spondylus shells with other people in The Andes. Chimu was also very religious; they worship the Moon. | ||
