A Chimbu Province man named "Yame" is wearing a circular forehead ornament made from the base of a conus shell. Strands of nassarius shells hang down on either side of his red painted nose. The red and black feathers of a Pesquet's Parrot and the green feathers of a lorikeet are positioned in a whisker-like manner. Part of the "Man as Art" series taken in highland Papua New Guinea between the years of 1967-1980.

A male in ceremonial, avian-like costume, completely bedecked with organic materials and handmade accouterments. From the "Man as Art" series taken in Papua New Guinea during the photographer's 13 years of travel into that area of the South Pacific, starting in the 1960's. A large-format book, entitled "Man as Art", was first published in 1981. At that time, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wrote that she considered it "one of the most beautiful books I have seen in my life."
