A wooden Middle Sepik River child's paddle
This fine child's paddle comes from the Middle Sepik River area of Papua New Guinea. Existing in this riverine environment meant depending on the use of a canoe, and children as young as 3 or 4 years of age were given small versions of craft and paddles to help sharpen their skills on the water. Hardwood with deep, rich red-brown, aged patina. Early-mid 20th century. 40.50"L. Fine condition with softened and well-handled surface.
