| This wooden panel from the interior of a sacred house originates from the Middle Sepik River area. It was most likely created by Iatmul peoples, and shows great movement and dimension for such a shallow relief carving. Medium hardwood with organic, polychrome paints; very fine aged patina. Early 20th century. 65.50"L x 13.75"W. Excellent condition with old, dormant insect damage, mainly visible on the reverse; a small, more recent loss midway along the right edge. A beautiful example. | |||||||||||||
