| The Chokwe art style is formal and static, related to the ruling class and their courts. Most carvings are further embellished with finely incised designs and patterns which enhance the quality of the object. This fine, old drum is no exception, and displays two male faces placed on the opposite sides of the top section of the instrument. Angola is the most likely origin of this drum, ca. early 20th century, 19.50"H x 11"W. It shows a wonderful, varied, medium brown patina with good wear overall from use. From a Florida private collection. | ||||||||
