A Chokwe 'Chihongo' mask
A sublime example of the mask representing a royal, male, Chokwe ancestor who was associated with wealth and power. The paddle-like beard seen below the chin is symbolic of a chiefly figure. Showing great age. Varied, somewhat weathered patina, overall; the surface shows much use and handling. Traces of organic white pigment in the mouth. Very fine example. 9.75"H x 6.25"W. From D.R.Congo / Angola. Provenance: Galerie Mueller, Copenhagen, Denmark, ca. 1988.
