Description: A Japanese Satsuma ware vase with hand painted scenes on four square sides. The vase has a wonderful motif of Buddhist themes of Rakan, Kannon and Japanese geisha ladies in a garden. Two of the motifs have the perfected saints of the Buddhist tradition (Rakan) and the other two sides have four geishas in garden settings with a flowering wisteria tree overhead and a gilt foo lion in relief at the shoulder. Japanese Banko ware vase in brown tapestry with applied decorations of flying cranes and white chrysanthemum flowers in low relief. There are also multi colored enamel and gilt stems, leaves and small flowers applied in relief. A ring of white dots is applied around the lower section of the body.
Condition: Excellent condition.
Marks: There is an impressed maker’s mark on the bottom of the vase.

Exceptionally fine tall Japanese porcelain vase with a flaring rim and fluted edge. It has a blue ground with a combination of applied lacquer and underglaze enamel designs. The first of the four reserves is decorated with a scene of Japanese sail boats in the midst of other designs, including mountains, trees, flowers and a fish net. Japanese two-section pipe case (Kiseru-zutsu) decorated with black lacquer and etched in gilt yin-yang design, a seal, and a scroll with the signature of the artist/maker. There is a ring on the side of the bottom piece for attaching a cord. the size is 9-1/2" Long x 1-1/4" Wide x 7/8" Deep; weighs 2 ozs. Very good condition, with a small hairline crack on the side of the bottom of the case. Does not include a pipe.
