Description: A Japanese Satsuma ware vase with hand painted scenes on four square sides. The vase has a wonderful motif of Buddhist themes of Rakan, Kannon and Japanese geisha ladies in a garden. Large Japanese Satsuma incense burner (Koro) decorated with heavy slip work in gilt and polychrome enamel. The top features a large gilt foo lion with a reticulated ball and numerous brocade designs all around the body with heavy gilt overlay. The body has a beige ground and has two large gilt foo lion handles mounted on the sides. Japanese Banko ware vase in brown tapestry with applied decorations of flying cranes and white chrysanthemum flowers in low relief. There are also multi colored enamel and gilt stems, leaves and small flowers applied in relief. A ring of white dots is applied around the lower section of the body.
Condition: Excellent condition.
Marks: There is an impressed maker’s mark on the bottom of the vase.

Incredible earthenware Satsuma plate with rarely seen turned rims, finely painted in enamels and gilt with a gathering of Buddhist dieties with rakan and large intertwining dragon in a landscape scene. The cartouch of Shimazu (circular form of Satsuma crest, "cross within a circle") is on each turned rim as well as on the bottom of the plate with a "Dia Nihon" and a signature.
