Bronze Buddha Image in Lopburi Style
Old Bronze Lopburi style Buddha image, standing with the palms of the hands facing outward in “Calming the Ocean” position. Has a cone shaped protuberance on the top of its head with a wide diadem with small lotus leaves. The eyes and lips are finely outlined, and the elongated earlobes are adorned with bud-shaped earrings. The Buddha image is wearing a long sampot, thick incised belt suspending pendants, armlets and a long cape falling from the shoulders. The Buddha is mounted on a wood base. From the patina, coloration and wear, this appears to be an early 1900's reproduction of the original Lopburi Buddhas from Northern Thailand. Size/Weight: 23”H (total) x 6-3/4”W x 3-1/4”D (stand 3-1/2”H x 3-3/4”Square); 9 lbs. Condition: Excellent overall condition, with green patination and discoloration to the bronze from age. There are no breaks or repairs, but there is a small hole in the left rear side of the wood stand, the cause or purpose of which is unknown. This is a very solid, magistic statue.
