Japanese Bronze Okimono of Prowling Tiger w/Stripes

This is an early 1900s Japanese bronze sculpture of a growling tiger, with its head raised and mouth open bearing finely sculpted teeth and curled tongue, with inset eyes, and a long tail that is extended to the rear with a curled tip. It features detailed raised stripes with a shiny, reddish brown finish over darker mat finished body, created from a unique acid etching process. There is an applied seal w/makers mark on the underside near the rear legs, and an etched signature above it. Size: 2-3/4 h x 5-1/2 wide x 1-1/4 deep. Condition is excellent. Early 1900s.
