| Exceptionally fine tall Japanese porcelain vase with a flaring rim and fluted edge. It has a blue ground with a combination of applied lacquer and underglaze enamel designs. The first of the four reserves is decorated with a scene of Japanese sail boats in the midst of other designs, including mountains, trees, flowers and a fish net. The second reserve scene is of fans with cherry blossoms and peonies. The third scene is of a flying bird on the neck of the vase, with its beak open. Below that is a bird and peony flowers over a river and tree formation. The fourth scene is a repeat of the fan scene on the opposite side of the vase. The view of the top of the vase shows the blue enamel to be applied inside the upper neck. The vase was formerly of the noted Snider Collection of Asian Antiques. Signed: no marks Date: Pre-1900, Meiji Size/Weight: 22”H x 9”Diameter; 11 lbs. Condition: Has some loss to the overlaid lacquer rust-red striping design that outlines the reserves. There are a couple of original firing flaws in the blue enamel slightly above the base of the vase. However, the vase has no breaks, cracks or repairs. Look at photo #12 for most accurate color rendition of the vase. | |||||||||||||||
