| Bronze sculpture of Diana, the Huntress signed on the base,“Valentin”, (for Louis Valentin Elias Robert, 1821-1874). This is a classical version of the standing nude figure of Diana, with a bow in her left hand and reaching for an arrow with her right hand. Diana (Greek name Artemis) is known to be the Goddess of the Hunt and of the moon with deadly arrows. According to mythology, she was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister of Apollo. From the patina on this bronze, and the quality of the casting, it appears to have been made in a French foundry during the 19th century. The sculpture is mounted on a black marble base. Condition: Excellent, with no damage or repairs. Marks: Signed “Valentin”, on bronze base behind the feet. Date: c19th century. Size/Weight: 16-1/4”H x 13”W; 10 lbs. | |||||||||||||||
