Early Vietnamese Shipwreck Blue and White Porcelain Saucer Period:1490's, Vietnam Size:The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/8". Description:This saucer or shallow bowl is part of our collection of Vietnamese export porcelain that has been recovered from a sunken ship. The ship sank in the 1490's with a cargo bound for unknown destinations. Similar pieces have been found as far away as Egypt and being for everyday use, few pieces that reached their destination have survived. Never having been used, the only deterioration is from being in the sea for 500 years. The saucer has a stylized prunus spray painted in the center, surrounded by a single blue ring below a geometric band around the slightly flared rim. The short foot rim is decorated with double blue rings below a continuous overlapping petal band. The recessed bases are washed with a rich chocolate brown. Some chips are evident in the rim, the glaze is lustrous with some degradation and marine encrustation. Shipping and Insurance: We ship Federal Express. U.S. customers: FedEx Ground (3-5 business days), $10. ; 2nd day air, $25. To Europe: International Priority (2-3 business days) $55. These shipping charges are estimates and may vary up to 40%. Please contact us for your destination. |
