Matching Pair of Chinese Black Stone Carved Foo Lions Period:Late 18th Century, Qing Dynasty, China Size:One stands 6 1/4" tall, the other is 6 3/4" tall. The bases are approximately 3" high and measure 5" by 3 1/2". Description:This is a handsome pair of matching Foo Lions. The bases are deeply etched on all four sides with curves and cross-hatching. The lions stand guard with two free-standing legs, one leg in relief and the fourth seated upon. The tails are across their backs, etched lines accenting the hair. Well-carved faces have open mouthes, large noses and detailed eyes. Fine incised lines highlight the brows, ears and shoulders. They are special pieces and very desirable.
