Excellent Tang Dynasty Pottery Painted Lokapala
Beautiful Tang Dynasty Tomb Pottery Painted Lokapala Period: Tang Dynasty 618 to 907, China. Size: The wonderful sculpture stands approximately 22 1/2" tall. Condition: Color fading, abrasions, small chips and/or minor deterioration with possible areas of expert restoration is not unusual in burial pieces of this age. Description: This is a very beautiful statue. This lokapala still has a great deal of original pigment still remaining. The lokapala is a white color decorated with red, green, and black pigment. He appears to be standing on a recumbent bull. Lokapalas were though to ward off evil from the tomb. This is an excellent example of Tang Dynasty tomb pottery. Buyer may request this item TL tested (thermo luminescence) by Oxford Authentication in England for an additional fee of $450.00 for items in our China distribution point.
