Chinese Five Dynasties Bronze Lotus Jar with Lid

Condition: Some color fading, abrasions, small chips and/or minor deterioration with possible areas of expert restoration is not unusual in burial pieces of this age.

Description: This rare bronze jar with lid is from Yunnan province in southwest China. Dating from the Five Dynasties period (907-960 A.D.), the thin ovoid body is decorated with petals of a stylized lotus flower. The knobbed lid has an eight-pointed design and is attached with twisted wire to hold it in place. The vessel is patinated with blue-green corrosion, and small fragments of cloth are found inside. The vessel is 9.5" high and the diameter is 9.0".
