Chinese Red Lacquered Shanxi Cabinet

Period: 19th Century,China.

Size: The charming cabinet is 24 1/4" wide, 15 1/4" deep and 34 1/4" tall.

Condition: Color fading, abrasions, small chips and/or minor deterioration with possible areas of expert restoration is not unusual in furniture of this age.

Description: Named for the area in China where it was made and typically of the region, this wonderful little cabinet is a very functional and decorative size. Only the fronts of these cabinets were red lacquered, leaving the tops, sides and backs painted black.The red lacquer has aged to a lovely brownish red, very unique for its type, with all-over tiny authenticating crackles. The front is beautifully accented in black painting with scenes of people, mountains and trees in bloom. The interior has room for storage and has one shelf with a drawer. The cabinet is secured with an attached metal slide latch with two rings.
