The cylindrical form is hand painted in greens, blues and mustard yellow to depict a fort with in a tropical setting. The tankard has an applied and restored “C” shaped handle and is topped with a pewter lid that is monogrammed “CHH” and dated 1776.
The bulbous form is decorated in a polychrome zoomorphic scene around a central castle with four hand applied blue ear shaped handles. The verso is marked “Talavera, Espana.”
A Talavera Plate Centered by Sancho Poncho, Spanish 20th Century
A 20th Century Talavera Plate featuring a picture of Sancho Poncho on a horse. The artist’s signature is on the verso. This plate would make a fine addition to a unique plate collection.
