A Pewter Single Candle Sconce, Continental, 19th Century
The Single sconce has a Chippendale style plate as the back with a “C” shaped arm supporting a single nozzle. The verso is marked with a hallmark, with a crown over a NV. This may be a French or Flemish hallmark.
A Pewter Jar with Lid, Art Nouveau, Kayserzinn, Germany, circa 1900
This is a wonderful piece of Art Nouveau metal smithing. The slightly domed lid has a pair of beatles that form a handle and it fits over a conforming body that tapers to an oval base. This elegant piece is cast in an art nouveau form with a stylized flower pod motif on the attached under plate and a rose bud on each side of the bowl. Marked on verso “KAYSERZINN, 4387” in raised letters with in an oval.
CONDITION: Excellent.
SIZE: 3 ¾” high, 4 ½” wide, 6 ¾” long
Each cast in the form of an emerging flower blossom with sensual pedal forms covered in a great patina. Marked on the base “KAYSERZINN, 4279” with raised letters in an oval and impressed numbers “53” out side the oval.
CONDITION: Excellent.
SIZE: 9 ¾” HIGH.
The body of the jug with an Art Nouveau motif is covered in irises, including the organic shaped handle. The front of the jug has a grimacing Saturn in relief. The underside is marked with impressed characters “23, KAYSERZINN, 4061, P”.
