This magnificent pair of console tables have a rectangular top with notched corners over a conforming apron. A lion’s head that is hand carved and gilded centers each side. This very unique hand carved mahogany chair features a seat of rush caining. The work has a simple form; the only stylization resides on the chair back. The horizontal splat shows detail of fanning scrolls. The crested rail shows three inlayed star medallions of ebony and ivory. The two rear legs are turned. Each element is hand crafted in the form of a roaring dragon fashioned with a shield shaped mid section and scrolling elements. Possible these are brackets for a hanging lantern. Maker unknown.
