An American Hand Painted, Rush Seat Side Chair, 19th Century
The shapely backsplates and curved styles are above a square rush seat, raised on saber legs and painted in a warm green. The chair is further embellished with gold and black decoration in a Federal deign of Acanthus leaves and banding.
This very unique hand carved mahogany chair features a seat of rush caining. The work has a simple form; the only stylization resides on the chair back.
