A Continental Silver and Ivory Box, Late 19th Century
A Continental Silver and Ivory Box, Late 19th Century, Probably German

The turtle top shape box is chased with scrolling foliage and floral swags. The hinged lid is centered by a carved piece of ivory. The plaque depicts Neptune, putti riding a dolphin and a mermaid. This ivory plaque may pre-date the box and as such the plaque is beveled set and the setting has been repaired. The verso is marked with hallmarks that include a crescent moon, crown and the numbers “800.” The lid opens to reveal a gold wash lid and an adorned base.

Condition: Very Good, repair at several points to beveled setting.

Size: 2 ½” high, 4 ¾” deep, 6” long

$1,500.00
