A Watercolor, Edwin Reading, William Sommer (American, 1867-1949)
This portrait by William Sommer is circa 1922. The portrait of his son, Edwin is reading. This striking image shows a pencil sketch under a variety of simple brush strokes to create wonderful detail and shading. The artist signature is in the lower right “Wm Sommer”. Prov: Private collection, Dallas TX, Robert Miller Gallery, New York, 1985.
Size: 19 1/8” high, 16” wide (Framed) Condition: According to a third party examination: estate stamped signature in the lower right, the image size approx. 10" x 7-1/4", the sheet size approx. 11-3/4" x 8-7/8", hinged into a linen mat with strips of 2-ply rag surrounding the interior of the mat opening, and framed under UV filtering glass overall approx. 19" x 16". Slight time toning to the paper, otherwise appears to be in fine condition. The thin sheet has been mounted onto a two-ply board for support; there is a vertical score through the paper along the right margin and a few losses at the corners. $3,500.00 |
