Cast iron Fire Insurance protection building marker. The "F" and "A" are on either side of a water box with a hose attached. Marks were placed on insured buildings as a guide to the insurance company's brigade to fight the fire. Marks were discontinued when brigades were directed to respond to all fires. This one measures 11 1/2" X 9" c. 1869. We take charge cards here at our shop in Connecticut.
