Fabulous vintage 1930s or 1940s French Art Deco frame bag beaded in cut steel and goldtone and silvertone metal microbeads, with cast scallop shaped elements
and prong set colorless rhinestones along the front clasp, which flips up to open. With its original box from Bailey Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia, and appears rarely
used. With a beaded thick cord strap, and a pale yellow silk satin lining. It is beaded in the ornate traditional French patterns used in cut steel bags from the early
20th century. The later, more tailored style of this bag is extremely wearable and versatile. The photos are absolutely not capturing the shimmering silver and gold of
the microbeading. 8 inches wide and 6 inches long with a 4 inch strap drop. Excellent condition. All stones are bright. There is very slight overall aged darkening of the metal beads, only noticeable when compared to the lighter finish under the clasp, and does not show when the clasp is closed. There is very slight wear to the gold threaded fabric cords which attach the strap to the body of the bag but again this is not noticeable. There are one or two tiny spots on the lining. One or two of the metal microbeads have lost their covers; this is only visible under a loupe. None of these tiny issues detract in the least from this piece and I mention them strictly for accuracy. Photos enlarged to show detail. |
