American Studio Pottery Polia Pillin Mid Century Vase

Offered is a fabulous art pottery vessel by American studio potter Polia Pillin from the 1950s. Polia Pillin perfected the technique of painting on wet clay with colored clays. After decorating each pot, the pot was fired then covered with transparent glaze and re-fired. The end result was art on a piece of pottery with a luminous, glass like finish that is unmistakably recognizable. This vessel measures 10 inches in height and 7 inches in diameter is signed by the artist and is in excellent condition. About the Artist Painter, ceramist. Born in Szenstochowa, Poland on Sept. 1, 1909. Pillin immigrated to Chicago in 1924. She studied there at the AIC and Jewish Peoples Institute. She was based in Santa Fe, NM during the 1930s but made painting trips to California. Leaving Chicago in 1948, she settled in Los Angeles where she remained until her death on July 25, 1992. For more information on the Artist and her life read the book Pillin Pottery by Jerry Kline and Mike Nickel
