A large Iga bowl by Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box which is in turn enclosed in a second protective wooden box. The russet clay is dotted with tonbo-no-me (dragonfly eyes) and a thick blast of ash. The form is coil-made, the evidence visible within the bowl. This is certainly a prominent piece by the artist, and the only piece in this collection graced with a double wooden box (Ni-Ju bako). A fine deeply fissured Seiji Bakuhen Tenmoku bowl by contemporary artist Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The glaze appears to be multiple layered transparent green, shattered like jade, a startling effect actually. The bowl is in the traditional Chinese form called Tenmoku, with a small delicate foot of dark clay. It is signed inside the wari-kodai. The tiny foot intimates a sense of floating, as if the dark glaze is a shiny rain cloud hovering over the tatami. A thick sided gosu Mentori Chawan by Kawai Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The bowl is quite large, with deeply sculpted sides covered in rose with iron rim and base. Inside is crackled white with some infusion of color with use. The box is a dome-lidded Shiho kiri box of fine quality, titled and signed within. A deep Hada-kujira Tsutsu Chawan by Koie Ryoji (b. 1938) enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating circa 1990. The blended terracotta clay is drawn up and scraped, enigmatic marks scratched into the sides, then dipped in a pale glaze and draped with iron at the rim.
