A thick coating of green glass covers the burnt terracotta clay of this misshapen Teapot by Iga representative Atarashi Kanji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The form is scraped and gashed and pushed and contorted, very pleasing to the touch and eye. It is 9-1/2 inches (24.5 cm) tall, roughly 6 inches (15.5 cm) diameter and in perfect condition, as is the wooden box. A rat in clear glaze applied over gold, blue outside by Matsumoto Saiichi in the original signed wooden box. The cup is 3 inches (7.5 cm) diameter and in perfect condition.
