Dabs of iron form a forest lost in the snowy landscape of thsi sizeable fresh water container by Mizuno Kobaku (b. 1926) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The pitted glaze, tinged orange, gathers thick about the rim, fading to a pebble textured dusting over the orange earth at the base. A striking large Han-zutsu Shino bowl by Kato Kageaki with cotton buffer and silk bag enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Linear forms lie shadowlike below the thick pitted shino glaze burnt red on the edges, the body torn and cut creating a vivacious landscape for the senses. The fire side of this traditional form mimitsuki Shigaraki cylinder has been flattened with a deep swath of the paddle, creating a valley through which ran molten glass to which clings a thick range of crisp ash embers, a spectacular piece by Shigaraki representative Honiwa Rakunyu (d. 1963) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. An unusual and experimental slab form vase by Kato Shigetaka enclosed in the original signed wooden box, judging by form likely from the 1960s. The slab has been wrapped around and pinched together, one end folded and flattened to from the base, the other torn off and left jagged. Opposite the pinched joint is a deep gorge torn from the lay where ash has clung and melted, and the corners have fissured during the firing process, creating a unique silhouette. Green Bidoro gather in a line of drips running through the rough landscape of shiseki and ishihaze forming this squat bottle by Shigaraki artist Sawa Kiyotsugu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. An animated work by one of Japans most interesting 20th century ceramic artists Kawai Kanjiro enclosed in a fine kiri-wood box endorsed by the Kawai Kanjiro Museum. The heavy piece dates from later in this artists distinguished career. It is in a style known as Doro-e, or slip design, and the design is actually raised quite off the surface. A set of 5 yuteki tenmoku yu-hai Sencha Tea Cups by Living National Treasure Shimizu Uichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The evenly speckled black surface surmounts a flame-red terracotta base, the interior widely crackled eggshell. Each cup is roughly 3 inches (8 cm) diameter and all are in prefect condition. A rare opportunity to revisit the earlier years of modern Mashiko with this pottery box (tobako) by Kimura Ichiro (1915-1988) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The simple square from has a tooled top and is covered in woven strokes of pale slip. It is roughly 11 by 6 x 5 inches (28 x 15 x 12.5 cm) and is in perfect condition. A large urn shaped vessel by Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. The artists famous Jomon rope impressions are visible in filled slip about the center. A beautifully potted piece in deep iron color, the vase is 10 inches tall, 7-1/2 inches diameter an in perfect condition. A deep, almost bulbous, Wan-gata Chawan by Ueda Tsuneji Titled Kikumon, or Chrysanthemum, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The large bowl is covered in speckled green glaze turning blue on the lower edges, with a bodacious mum in blue and black. It measures 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter, the slightly tapered rim just over 3 inches (8cm) tall.
